This is happening! According to both Barcelona-based newspaper Diario Sport and French top source RMC, Antoine Griezmann‘s €120million release clause has been fully paid. The validation of the payment was signed by Josep Maria Bartomeu himself on Thursday’s evening.
When asked where the money is coming from, the president reveals it was from the club’s personal funds. That means the Catalan giants didn’t have to take out a new line of credit.
As soon as the money reaches Atletico Madrid‘s bank accounts, Griezmann will be free from his contractual obligations to the Rojiablancos. Afterwards, Barcelona are set to confirm this transfer officially. The sources indicate the announcement could arrive in the upcoming hours.
By the way, Diario Sport also reveal that Barcelona were insistent on paying the release clause in instalments. They offered Atletico Madrid even a bigger sum, around 127 million euros but to be paid in several transactions. The Rojiblancos refused as they needed to get the money straight away.
What’s next for Griezmann, though? Previously, RAC1 have revealed he would be presented on Sunday, July 14 which is also confirmed by ESPN FC. Sport, meanwhile, believe the Frenchman will only arrive in the city of Barcelona on Saturday.
